Central Training Academy has offered our Driver Education Program for over 10 years. Central Training Academy use latest model cars to provide their training. Our cars are equipped with dual breaks for extra safety.
We also provide driver education in Grand Falls-Windsor, Lewisporte, Milltown, Springdale, and Baie Verte.
The course includes 25 hours in-class training and 10 hours behind the wheel training. The topics covered in-class include "How to Drive" textbook (with videos integrated after each section covered), Road User Guide, and Defensive Driving. The driving portion includes pre-vehicle check, basic maneuvering, parallel parking, angle parking, proper turning and stopping. When the driving portion is completed you will be prepared to do your road test. The instructor will make your appointment for you and you will complete your road test using the school's car you trained in.
The course and our instructors are Government Certified by the Motor Registration Division.
The prices vary from area to area and only a down payment of 1/2 the total cost is required to begin the course. These prices are very competitive.
How It Works
The Newfoundland Government created a Graduated Driver Licence program in Jan 1999. It is designed to be a step by step process so that the novice driver may obtain the skills and knowledge required to operate a motor vehicle safely.
There are two levels of Novice Driver:
- Level I - Novice (learner)
- Level II - Novice; Licenced
Note: This new program applies to all new drivers regardless of age
You must be 16 years of age to complete and pass the novice beginners written and vision exam. (you must acquire a mark of 85% in the written exam)
LEVEL I (Learner)
This licence is valid for 24 months and the driver must spend a minimum of 12 months at this level before being upgraded to Level II.
NOTE: This time is reduced to 8 months upon the successful completion of an approved Drivers Education Program.
Rules for Level I driver:Driver must be accompanied by a licenced driver with at least 4yrs experience.
No Passengers, except for the experienced driver.
Experienced driver's blood alcohol level is to be no greater than .05%
The novice driver is not permitted to driver between 12 midnight and 5 am.
LEVEL II (Learner; Licenced)
The driver must spend a minimum of 12 months at this level before being upgraded to regular class 5 licence.
Rules for Level II driver:Driver must be accompanied by a licenced driver, with at least 4yrs experience, between the hours of 12 midnight and 5am. (except when required to travel to work, proof required by police)
The driver's blood alcohol must be 0%. The experienced driver's blood alcohol level is to be no greater than .05%
You are not able to upgrade to a commercial class of licence.
Blood alcohol level should be 0% at all times... for all drivers !
